Some come from our vintage rugs, some from our Turkish rugs, and a handful trace back to Iran rather than Anatolia, though that is the exception here, not the rule. There is no single industry definition of "large," and every rug site draws the line in a slightly different place. Large vintage rugs still come from the same wool and the same looms as everything else we sell
Nothing about how a rug is made changes because it ends up this size. The same hand-knotting, the same wool, occasionally the same natural dye lot that goes into a rug half this size also shows up here, just repeated across a lot more square footage. Washing one of these is not a quick job. It takes more than one person to move a rug this size through water and back out again, and depending on the season, it can take two or three days to dry fully. I did not appreciate how much the size would change the actual handling until I was the one folding a soaking wet rug this heavy by myself for the first time. Age reads differently over more square footage, too. A large field can carry a decades-old sun-fade line running across half the rug, or a border that has gone slightly uneven after being walked past thousands of times in one direction. A small rug hides those details more easily. A large one does not.

A big rug does not automatically fix a room the way people hope it will. Put one in a space that is only technically large, say a living room with a low ceiling or an awkward traffic path, and the furniture can end up looking like it is floating in the middle of a field instead of anchored to it. I would rather talk someone out of a large rug than have it arrive and sit wrong for the next ten years.
