FAMILY OWNED IN CAPPADOCIA, TURKEY

Three Generations of Turkish Rug Knowledge

From our family workshop in Cappadocia to homes across the United States, Canada, Europe, and beyond.

OUR FAMILY STORY

Hi, I'm Kadir. This Is the Story Behind Kirmen Rugs.

I was born in Aksaray and grew up in Cappadocia, Turkey — a region where handmade rugs have been woven into daily life for centuries. My grandfather worked with rugs, my father continued the tradition, and I spent years learning how to recognize real wool, authentic weaving patterns, natural dyes, and the kind of honest character that only comes with age.

The name Kirmen comes from an old Turkish word for the hand spindle — the simple wooden tool used for centuries to spin raw wool into yarn, the very first step in making a handmade rug. It felt like the right name for a brand built around that same slow, careful process.

Every rug you see on our website is personally selected, inspected, washed, photographed, packed, and shipped by our family before it reaches your home.

What Does Kirmen Mean?

A Name That Goes Back to the Very Beginning of Every Rug

In Turkish, kirmen is the traditional hand spindle — a simple wooden tool that Anatolian women used for centuries to spin raw wool into yarn. Before a single knot could be tied, before a pattern could emerge, the wool had to be spun. The kirmen was where every rug's life began.

When we were choosing a name for our brand, we wanted something that honored the full journey of a handmade rug — not just the weaving, but the wool, the spinning, and the patience behind it. That is what Kirmen Rugs represents: the whole tradition, from the very first thread.

It is also a word that most people outside Turkey have never heard — which felt right for a brand bringing something genuinely rare to homes around the world.

Why Our Rugs Are Different

Every Rug Has a Story. Ours Are 30–100 Years Old.

Kirmen Rugs sells only genuine vintage and antique handwoven rugs — not machine-made, not reproductions. Each piece is personally selected in Turkey, where weaving traditions stretch back centuries. You are not buying a new rug that looks old. You are buying history.

Hand-Selected in Turkey We personally search for vintage rugs across Turkey and choose pieces with real age, quality, and character.
Aged 30–100 Years True vintage and antique pieces — not machine-made, not reproductions, and never mass-produced.
One of a Kind, Forever Once a rug sells, it is gone. No two pieces are identical — because every rug carries its own history.

WHY WE OPENED OUR OWN WEBSITE

More Than 2,000 Orders. Then We Built Something Better.

Before Kirmen Rugs, we completed over 900 sales on Etsy and 300+ on eBay. We built a real track record, real reviews, and real trust. But marketplace commissions kept climbing — and with every sale, a larger slice went to the platform instead of going back into finding better rugs for our customers.

So we built Kirmen Rugs. A direct brand where we control the pricing, the communication, and the full experience — without a third-party platform taking a cut from every order.

The result: lower prices, a larger selection, and faster, more personal service than any marketplace allows. Our full history on Etsy and eBay is still there to verify anytime.

Why Buy Directly From Kirmen Rugs?

Better Value. More Personal Service.

Buying directly means working with the same family who personally sources, washes, photographs, packs, and ships every rug — with advantages that large marketplaces simply cannot match.

No Marketplace Commissions

Etsy and eBay take a percentage of every sale. By buying direct, those savings stay in the price you pay — not the platform's fee.

No U.S. Sales Tax Collected

At this time, we do not collect U.S. sales tax at checkout — which can make a meaningful difference on larger purchases.

Free Express Shipping

Every rug ships free worldwide with UPS or FedEx Express — full tracking from our workshop in Cappadocia to your front door.

DDP Covered Over $250

For many U.S. orders above $250, we cover applicable import-related costs — no unexpected charges when your rug arrives.

Full Collection Access

Many of our one-of-a-kind rugs are listed exclusively on our website and will never appear on Etsy, eBay, or any other marketplace.

Direct Family Communication

Questions and custom requests reach our family directly — not a support ticket system or a platform's automated inbox.

Import duties and tax rules can vary by destination country and order value. If you have any questions before placing an order, our family is happy to help clarify the details.

Our Marketplace History

Don't Just Take Our Word for It

Before launching Kirmen Rugs, we built our reputation sale by sale on Etsy and eBay. You can browse our full review history on both platforms — every completed transaction is there to verify.

We opened our own website because growing marketplace fees were making it harder to offer competitive prices. The solution was simple: sell direct, keep costs lower, pass the savings to you.

MORE THAN DECOR

A Piece of Anatolian Heritage for Your Home

We don't sell factory-made rugs, reproductions, or mass-produced designs. Every rug in our collection has already lived a life — in a village home, a family room, a place that had its own story — before arriving in yours.

When you choose a Kirmen rug, you are not simply buying something to cover a floor. You are preserving a piece of Anatolian craftsmanship and helping a disappearing handmade tradition continue into the future.

Thank you for supporting our small family business in Cappadocia.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Want to Know Before You Order

Questions about shipping, authenticity, returns, or customs? We have answered the ones we hear most often below.

Are your rugs really vintage? How do I know they are not reproductions?

Every rug we sell is personally selected by our family in Turkey. We do not buy from wholesalers or mass importers. Each piece is inspected for age, wool quality, weaving structure, natural dye characteristics, and overall condition before it joins our collection. If a rug does not pass our inspection, it does not get listed. Our Etsy and eBay history with over 2,000 completed sales is publicly available — you can read real customer reviews and verify our track record before purchasing.

Do you ship to the United States? How long does delivery take?

Yes — the United States is our largest market. Most orders are shipped with UPS or FedEx Express and arrive within 4 to 7 business days. Every shipment includes full tracking from our workshop in Cappadocia to your front door. Shipping is free on all orders worldwide.

Will I have to pay customs fees or import duties?

For many U.S. orders above $250, we ship on a DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) basis, meaning we cover applicable import-related costs so there are no unexpected charges on delivery. Rules can vary by destination and order value. If you have a specific question before ordering, please contact us directly and our family will be happy to help clarify the details for your country.

What if the rug looks different in person or I change my mind?

We photograph every rug in natural light and list accurate dimensions, so what you see is as close to real life as possible. If for any reason you are not satisfied after receiving your rug, please contact us within 30 days of delivery. We handle returns and concerns directly as a family — no automated systems, no third-party support teams. Your satisfaction matters to us personally.

Can I see more photos or get more information before buying?

Absolutely. Just send us a message through the contact page or reply to any email from us. We are happy to share additional photos, measurements, or details about any rug in our collection. Because every piece is one of a kind and sells quickly, we recommend reaching out promptly if you are seriously interested.

Why are your prices lower than similar rugs on Etsy or in rug stores?

We source directly in Turkey, clean and prepare every rug ourselves, and sell through our own website without marketplace commissions. We also do not work with wholesalers, importers, or retail distributors. Every step we skip in the traditional supply chain is a markup we do not pass on to you. We also do not collect U.S. sales tax at checkout, which can make a meaningful difference on larger purchases.

How should I care for a vintage Turkish rug?

Vintage rugs are more durable than most people expect — they have already survived decades of use. For routine care, vacuum regularly on the low-pile setting without the beater bar, and rotate the rug every year or two to even out wear. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can fade natural dyes over time. For deeper cleaning, we recommend professional rug cleaning rather than household carpet shampoos. A quality rug pad underneath will extend the life of both the rug and your floor.

What does the name Kirmen mean?

Kirmen is the Turkish word for a hand spindle — the traditional wooden tool used across Anatolia for centuries to spin raw wool into yarn. It represents the very first step in making a handmade rug: before any weaving could begin, the wool had to be spun. We chose this name because it honors the full journey of a handmade rug, from raw material to finished piece, and reflects our belief that real craftsmanship starts long before the first knot is tied.
