From Our Workshop in Cappadocia to Homes Across America

Hey, Kadir here.

Before you read the policy details, I want to explain something quickly — because honestly, if I were buying a vintage rug from someone thousands of miles away, I'd probably want to know who's actually behind the website too.

Kirmen Rugs is a small family-run workshop based in Cappadocia, Turkey. I've been around handwoven rugs my entire life. Today, together with my family, I'm the person selecting the rugs, photographing them, answering customer emails, packing orders, and making sure each piece safely leaves our workshop.

We don't operate from a giant warehouse in the United States. We don't have investors, fulfillment centers, or marketplace middlemen increasing the prices behind the scenes.

That's exactly why our prices are usually much lower than large rug retailers — even for genuine one-of-a-kind handmade rugs.

Most of our customers are in the United States, and over the years we've shipped hundreds of rugs to homes across America, Canada, and Europe. We're still growing every year, improving every year, and trying to build this business the right way — slowly, honestly, and directly.

Because we're still operating directly from Turkey, two parts of our process work a little differently from massive U.S. companies:

  • Returns currently come back to our workshop in Turkey instead of a U.S. warehouse
  • Return shipping costs are paid by the customer — but we soften this by offering store credit equal to 50% of your return shipping for future purchases

I know this can sound less convenient than buying from a big U.S. retailer, so below I've explained exactly how everything works, step by step.

And honestly? If you ever have a question, just email me.

I personally read every message myself.

🚚 Shipping

Free Worldwide Shipping

Kirmen Rugs offers free express shipping on every order.

While we ship worldwide, most of our rugs are delivered to customers in the United States, and our shipping process is mainly optimized for U.S. deliveries.

Delivery Times

Most U.S. orders arrive within 4–7 business days.

Canada and Europe are usually similar depending on customs processing.

All orders are shipped using trusted international carriers such as UPS and FedEx Express.

Fast Dispatch

Orders are packed and shipped within 1 business day after payment.

The moment your rug leaves our workshop, you'll automatically receive a tracking number by email so you can follow the shipment in real time.

Lost or Delayed Packages

If your order does not arrive within 30 days, you'll receive a full 100% refund — no questions asked.

Thankfully, this is extremely rare. Most rugs arrive much sooner.

💰 Why Our Prices Are Lower

A lot of customers ask why our rugs are often cheaper here than on Etsy, 1stDibs, or large rug websites.

The answer is simple: marketplace commissions.

Platforms like Etsy and 1stDibs can take a large percentage from every sale. Traditional rug stores also have warehouse costs, showroom costs, employee costs, and multiple middlemen involved.

We don't.

You're buying directly from the source — from a small workshop in Turkey.

Same rug. Same craftsmanship. Just fewer layers between you and the maker.

🇺🇸 U.S. Sales Tax

Currently, Kirmen Rugs does not collect U.S. state sales tax.

That means most American customers simply pay the listed checkout price without any extra sales tax added later.

No hidden fees. No surprise percentage at checkout. The price you see is the price you pay.

🛃 Customs & Import Fees

International shipping rules changed recently, especially in the United States, so we want to be transparent here.

In August 2025, the U.S. ended the $800 duty-free de minimis exemption. This means every package entering the United States from abroad is now subject to customs duty, regardless of value. This affects every international seller — and there's nothing any seller can do to change this federal policy.

But here's the good news: for almost every U.S. Kirmen order, you'll either pay nothing or just a small fee.

🇺🇸 For U.S. Customers

For Orders Under $250

Customers may be charged a small customs fee by the courier at delivery — typically between $10 and $15. We do everything within our power to keep these costs as low as possible for you.

For Orders $250 and Above

Kirmen Rugs covers your customs duty in full using DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) shipping. You'll never receive a bill at your door. The checkout total is the final total — period.

Since most of our rugs are priced above $250, the vast majority of our U.S. customers never pay any customs fee at all.

🌍 For Customers Outside the United States

For all international orders shipped outside the U.S. (including Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Australia, and other countries), customs duties, import taxes, and any local fees are the responsibility of the buyer.

Each country has its own customs rules, tax rates, and processing fees, which are determined by your local government — not by Kirmen Rugs. Charges vary widely depending on your country, the value of your order, and current import regulations.

If you'd like an estimate of possible customs fees for your country before ordering, feel free to email me at hello@kirmenrugs.com and I'll share what previous customers in your region have typically paid.

↩️ Returns

Buying a vintage rug online can feel personal — sometimes a piece looks perfect online but feels different once it's inside your space. We completely understand that. That's why we offer a 30-day return window with no restocking fees, no approval process, and no questions about why.

📌 Important: Please read before purchasing

Because Kirmen Rugs ships directly from Turkey and we don't yet operate a U.S. return warehouse, two things apply to all returns:

  • Returns are shipped back to our workshop in Cappadocia, Turkey
  • Return shipping costs are paid by the customer

To soften this, we provide store credit equal to 50% of your return shipping cost for future purchases (see details further below).

We want to be fully transparent about this upfront — so there are no surprises if you ever decide to return your rug.

Return Conditions

  • No stains
  • No damage
  • No excessive wear
  • Please pack the rug carefully for return shipping

Custom-made, specially commissioned, or personalized rugs created specifically upon customer request cannot be returned.

How Returns Work

  1. Email us within 30 days of delivery
  2. We'll provide the Turkey return address and instructions
  3. Ship the rug back using a trackable courier (return shipping is paid by you)
  4. Once the rug arrives and is inspected, your refund is processed within 5–7 business days to your original payment method

Why Returns Go Back to Turkey

Right now, all returns come back directly to our Cappadocia workshop.

Honestly, this is one of the compromises that allows us to keep our prices much lower than many large U.S. retailers.

Do you really ship from Turkey?

Yes. Every rug ships directly from our family workshop in Cappadocia. No U.S. warehouse, no middleman.

How fast is delivery to the U.S.?

Most orders arrive within 4–7 business days via UPS or FedEx Express.

Is shipping really free?

Yes — free express shipping on every order, no minimum, no size restrictions.

Will I receive tracking?

Yes, automatically. You'll get a tracking email the moment your rug leaves our workshop.

Do you charge U.S. sales tax?

No. We don't collect U.S. state sales tax. The price you see at checkout is what you pay.

Will I have to pay customs fees?

For U.S. customers: Orders under $250 may have a small fee ($10–$15) paid to the courier. Orders $250 and above are shipped DDP — we pay all customs duties for you.

For international customers (Canada, UK, EU, etc.): customs duties are determined by your local government and are the responsibility of the buy

Can I get a customs estimate before buying?

Yes — email me with what you're considering and I'll give you my best estimate based on past shipments.

Can I return a rug if I don't like it?

Yes. You have 30 days from delivery, with no restocking fees and no questions asked. Please note that return shipping is paid by the customer, but we provide store credit equal to 50% of your return shipping for future purchases.

Where do I send returns? Who pays for return shipping?

Returns come back to our workshop in Cappadocia, Turkey. Return shipping is paid by the customer, but to help with the cost we provide store credit equal to 50% of your return shipping for future purchases.

Can I cancel my order after placing it?

Unfortunately no — every rug is one-of-a-kind and gets removed from other platforms the moment it sells. But you still have the full 30-day return window after delivery.

Can I exchange my rug for a different one?

Yes, within 30 days. Ship the original back, tell us which rug you want instead, and we'll send it out and adjust any price difference.

What if my rug arrives damaged?

Email us within 7 days with photos. We'll fix it at our expense — including return shipping.

What payment methods do you accept?

Stripe (credit/debit cards), Apple Pay, Google Pay, and AfterPay for installments.

Do you sell wholesale?

Yes — 20–50% volume discounts, free shipping, and free customs duties on U.S. orders $250+. Email us for a personalized quote.
